Happiness: A Perspective on Life

Suman AdhikariMost of the time, I hear people saying life has no happiness. They feel unhappy, unable to find the happiness they’re searching for. But what is happiness, really? To me, happiness is not something we can see, nor is it something that always reflects on a person’s face. This is because many people hide their pain, sorrow, and sadness behind a smile — putting on a brave face so the world thinks they have no problems.

I’ve often met people who pretend to be happy, but when they’re drunk or vulnerable, their sorrows come pouring out. This is the reality of our generation — they have jobs, families, dreams, hobbies, and interests, yet the weight of responsibilities often keeps them from feeling truly free and happy. Having food, shelter, and clothing is essential, but that alone doesn’t make life complete — there’s something more, and that’s happiness.

The Importance of Happiness

Happiness is what gives life its true worth. No matter what you do, happiness is the vital fuel that keeps you going. Imagine this: you studied hard, scored the highest marks in your exams, your parents supported your education by taking loans, and after a long and difficult process, you finally landed a job. But when you go to work, you realize it’s not what you truly want. You feel no passion, no joy — you just pass the hours, waiting for the day to end. You come home exhausted and wish every morning that it were Sunday. When you post on social media, your words reflect your frustration and sadness.

If this sounds familiar, take a moment to reflect. The missing piece is happiness.

How to Find Happiness

Suman AdhikariYou can’t always change the world, but you can change yourself. It’s true that not everything you do will align with your passions — just like in school, you didn’t always study your favorite subjects. But life becomes more meaningful when you choose to enjoy the present moment, whatever your circumstances may be.

If you stay committed to your dreams, you will achieve them. Remember the words: “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” It’s the possibility of dreams coming true that makes life exciting.

Sometimes we complain because someone else has more — they wear shoes while we wear slippers. But there are people who would give anything just to have bare feet. Perspective matters.

Enjoy your life now. When you were younger, you dreamed of growing up, going to college, and becoming independent — but now that you’re here, you miss your childhood and your school days. No amount of money can buy those moments back. That’s life.

The choice is yours: wait for happiness someday or choose to find joy in every single day you live.
