Cooperatives are the organization which plays a vital roles for the development and growth of any specific fields. Cooperatives is derived from the word ‘co-operate’ which means working together.  According to the ICA(1855) has defined as “A co-operatives is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to achieve their common social and cultural needs and aspiration through jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprises.” on 1955. In Contest of Nepal here a lot of cooperative organization are available for  individual sectors as agriculture development, Financial support and saving credit cooperatives, consumer cooperatives, Producer Cooperatives, Labor Cooperatives etc. In Actual Way it can be classified as follows.

History


The main idea of cooperative was started from England on 1844 December 28. The first 28 people including a female and 27 male  From Rochdale started an organization with the share of 28 Pound total one one pound each and named ‘Rochdale society of equitable pioneer’  with few rules and regulation where taking a membership was open and voluntarily, Each members opinion was counted as a one vote what ever share he had. Profit was equally divided and was oriented on service rather than money. It got Legal Entities on 1852.

First Credit co-operative was started on Germany on 1849 by Franceis Schulze(1809-1883) and F.W. Reiffeisen (1818-1888when people were facing a lot of trouble on loan with Heavy interest and harassment from creditors, and they started a new mission of ‘Each for all and all for each’.On 1869 First Agriculture Cooperative was Formed and on 1879 First Consumer Cooperative was form on Japan and 1882 was formed on Denmark ,Chicken Cooperatives was formed on 1895 on Denmark , on 1896 F.D.B was formed. International Cooperative Association ICA was formed on 1895 and it gave seven principle of cooperatives as follows.

4. Autonomy and Independence
5. Education, Training and Information 
6. Co-operation among co-operatives
7. Concern for the community

Kibutzm was formed in Israel  on 1910 .Kibutzm was a common place where all the people from a certain society were having a food on common place. Central Cooperative Bank was formed on 1923 on Japan.

What is not a cooperatives?

Cooperatives are the organization which is formed by certain number of members to unlimited and is a common platform which always focus for the development of all member. It is the Service providing Organization rather than a profit earning organization. It follow some certain rules and regulation and terms condition which make it different from the Private business or Public business company.
• It Doesn’t Focus for the Profit. It do focus for the Service.
• Number of votes doesn’t makes difference with the amount of share. One vote for one member.
• Management don't fall on particular person, but equally to all members.
• There is no different between the owner or servant. 
• Membership duration doesn’t close with certain time.
• Decision doesn’t goes to single person but to all members. 
• Cooperatives Doesn’t discriminant people with gender, race and color.

Objectives of Cooperatives

• Cooperatives focus on self employment, market management and pricing, Quality product production,supply and distribution insuring the security and benefits.
• It focus the development of society of all gender, race, nationality and color and always leads people to the growth with training, Education and Saving.

Historical development of Cooperatives
1. On 1844 December 14 with 28 members one pound per person Rochdale equitable pioneers society was Formed as a first cooperative of the world on United Kingdom. On 1852 It was Legally Registered. 
2. On Germany Franceis Schulze and F.W. Raiffeisen formed first Saving and Credit Cooperative on 1849 with the Principle of “Each for all, All for Each”.
3. On 1869 First Agriculture,1882 first Dairy,1985 Chicken Cooperative was Formed on Denmark. 
4. On 1910 Kibutizm was Started on Israel.

ICA
It stands for International Cooperatives Alliance and its Head office lies on Geneva . It Follow the Rochdale Principle and Take care of all the cooperative running all over the World. The main Objectives of the ICA are to make sure either the cooperative principle are being followed or not, To motivate cooperative all over the world, To develop the cooperative, to develop the good relation National and International level and for its membership all National Union, Union of union of cooperative, Cooperative banks, Consumer cooperatives and Financial Cooperatives, Housing Cooperatives are Eligible.

Cooperative development on Nepal 
Depertmemnt of Coperative was formed on 2010BS and for as First Cooperative on Nepal was ‘Bakhan Cooperative’ established on 2013 Chaitra 20 on Sharadanagar Chitwan with 62 Person each of 10 Rupees share so that today Cooperative day is celebrated on Chaitra 20 on Nepal. On 2016 First Cooperative Rules and Regulation was released. On 2019 First Cooperative Training Program was Started. On 2020 First Cooperative bank was Established which was converted to Agriculture Development Bank on 2024. National Cooperative Development  board was established on 2048. National Cooperative Union was established on 2050 Asar 25. National Cooperative bank was established on 2060 Asar 25. National Cooperative union got Legal Registration ion 1997 May 9. Nepal was Nominated on ICA/ AP as vice President on 1998 and as a President on 2000. Nepal was Nominated on ICA/ROAP Standing committee on 2002. Shaja Sastha was established on 2018 .
